Dedicated to the memory of Muriel Wood

Muriel was a much loved Mum, Grandma and Great Grandma, who always cared for those around her whether they were family or friends.

She brought her creative flare and understanding of others to every part of her life. She was a valued member of many creative and socially active groups and her contribution to the lives of others both personally and indirectly was both significant and heartfelt.

Her family will always recall her love of nature, her fascination with, and awe for, the wonders of the natural world and her desire to make everyone’s lives better. She loved and lived her life to the full, and as those who walked with her will tell you, she always wanted to see over the top of the next hill.

She will be sadly missed by all those who knew her.

Thoughts

My Auntie Muriel was quite simply the best. I can hear her now saying - Judith drop the Auntie bit - you are grown up now! But I never could, as she always had my respect and always will. Born late to the youngest sister of the Wood family I had a unique place in the family. Auntie was more than Auntie to me. After my mum died suddenly (husband George's younger sister Gladys) I was trying to look after my dad (who had MND) from 120 miles away. I had to sell the family house for the care required and Auntie put me up every Saturday night for 2 years as I travelled from Cambridgeshire to Kent. She became my surrogate mum. Nothing was ever said but that was the case. I only got through those years because of her support, her love, and her absolute practicality. Without her I would never have come through as I did. I have lovely memories of everyone in the family - but Auntie meant the most to me. I loved visiting and her telling me off for various things as only she could. Jill and Mike too … no offence Jill, but Mike was obviously home more so I feel a very special bond with him. So thank you all - and thank you Auntie M - I think the last thing you told me off for was cleaning my own car as only costs a few pounds and my time is worth more … that's my pledge to you - here's to modern car washes!!!!! Thinking of you Auntie and love to Mike, Jill, Hannah, Richard, their families … and thank you so much for being a huge part of my life …. Judith

The members, past and present, of The Inner Wheel Club of Maidstone wish to say what a pleasure it was to have known Muriel. She was a very active member of our Club , served as our Secretary for many years and was very much missed when she moved away from Kent. We would like to send kind thoughts to Muriel's family and friends and very much hope that the memories they have will help them through this difficult time.
